In our latest project, we wanted to do something special for people we appreciate and who have somehow always been present.
All our products are exclusive and tailored to the client’s requirements. In this case, the client was ourselves, and we had to reflect our own story.
First, we defined the essence of Uniqkrea and what we wanted to convey. The most important thing was to demonstrate that we could create something simple yet unique and creative.
We chose a wine bottle because we wanted to give something to celebrate, something joyful and for sharing. Something that reflects our character. The label would make the difference.
Then we thought about the materials we could use. We looked for contrasting technologies, one more industrialized (laser cutting and engraving), and one more artisanal (an old Alfa machine). This machine also has sentimental value because it’s the one our grandmother used throughout her life.
The machine had been unused for a long time, so we had to clean and take care of it deeply before starting the tests. We had to adjust the belt, clean it inside, and grease it all. It was hard work, but personally rewarding.
We thought of using natural and as eco-friendly materials as possible, contributing our bit to nature, or at least, not contaminating more. Cork, natural fabric, and thread were the chosen materials.
There were several problems that we had to adapt to and solve. The selected cork didn’t work well in the machine and kept breaking. We tried some with less thickness and adhesive glue, but the glue stuck to the needle and thread and wouldn’t move. So, we opted for textile cork, which is durable and suitable for sewing.
There were also changes in laser engraving and cutting. It was difficult to find the right power and speed to prevent the fabric from burning. And since the fabric had a natural weave, the engraving wasn’t clearly visible. So, we had to slightly enlarge the design of the label so that the text would be legible.
